A pencil is one of the most ordinary objects among the things on a desk. This is basically a paperweight in the shape of a pencil, but can also be a writing material.

Brass oxidizes on exposure to air and thus gets the oxide film on its surface, which woks almost same as pencil lead. I used this phenomenon.

This object is usually put on a stack of paper as a paperweight, meanwhile it stores enough oxide films to be ready for small memo or urgent use. It is natural behavior both to put the pencil-shaped object on paper and write with it.
